Havenstock River Band - Havenstock River Band - Impress 1972

I actually haven't seen this one around very often. Even on the net there's little or no information abound these guys.
They seemed to have made at least one album with ex-Limeliters' Glenn Yarbrough who still tours with a band named Havenstock River Band yet none of them is identical with this original 1971/72 outfit.
I somewhere found the description "Rural guitar piano rock, barband sound with Christian concerns." That's about what it is, they would have been well in line with the Capricorn catalogue where they might have been treated with a better production.
I found this one on 6070Rock's wish list.

Artwork included.

Enjoy!

  5. Heard Havenstock in 1972 at The Place in Mammoth Lakes,California. I was a pal of Steve Hyde who was playing with Archie and the group at the time. Very good tight group.

  6. Hey Archie Dee!
This is your old bass-player, Charlie. I played with you along with Steve Hyde up at the Place and on tour with Glenn. "What Archie doesn't understand, well, is a lot of things" Where is
Clontz? Get in touch with me at mrloud@sbcglobal.net OK? Or anyone who remembers those good old days. How are Sid and NinaBelle? Those were strange days, and am sorry for the inconveniences that we caused in Dublin. Bye the way, Steve passed away about 6 years ago--total system failure.
    Feet Creek forever.

  7. Hi,

This is Jeffrey James, the original drummer and co-founder of The Havenstock River Band. Along with Archie Johnson, Gary Clontz, Gordon Curry and Geoffrey Pike, we were Glenn Yarbrough's back-up band and recorded an album with him before we released ours.

The fact that our album was made in 1971, there was no such thing as a CD at the time. I lost my copies of the album years ago. When I found this blog with the tunes I have not heard in so long, needless to say I was jumping for joy at the opportunity to download the album.

I must say, it seemed to have been played quite a bit in it's time. Many pops and Feet Creek had that skip in the beginning that you can only get from vinyl.

I would like to thank you for the memories and making these great old tunes available to people who can appreciate good old raw Rock and Roll.

BTW, the "Christian Concerns" part of that discription that you found was obviously referring to the album we did with Glenn.

    Thank you so much again.

    Jeffrey James

  15. Hi, all. I was a neighbour of Sid, Nina, Archie and Colleen, Archie's little sister who passed away from leukemia. While you guys were staying in Dublin at Sid and Nina's home we partied a little, you guys swam in our pool and you even helped paint our house before we moved to Florida. I'm listening to Tucumcari Highway as I type this. I have the album you guys signed and gave to me, along with another in perfect condition that I found on the internet. The signed one is played out after all these years. Still have the harmonic that Archie gave me back then. I have fond memories of watching you guys jam in the garage and pissing off the lady next door who had younguns trying to nap. Geoff's little red sportscar, Steve and his 'ludes, Charlie and his jokes, Gary seemed so serious and Archie was Archie. I have turned a lot of people on to your music - I call it "mountain rock". Anyway, while I was just a teenager at the time and it was only for one summer, those few months are great and fond memories for me, and your music is still a big part of my life. I hope you all are able to stay in touch with each other, and good luck with your search for Archie. As Archie wrote to me on the album cover "Peace and good fortunes", Jeff Swanson

He has been through some hard times lately physically, but he is still hanging in there. If ya want anymore info, contact me at: gaclontz@gmail.com

  17. Archie's the greatest -- all any of us need is opportunity to be our potential. Archie has more love and more people friends for life and more who love -- he just needs to know. So if you can hear me out there Arch, know you're greatly loved.

  18. My Dad asked me to look him up online. He said he is now in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So I found him there and decided to do a little more searching to see what else is out there about him. He was incredibly talented and earned his spot in the hall of fame. It really touched my heart to hear read all the kind things everyone here has said about him. I think many of you new him better than I did, being a musicians daughter had its downside. Its good to know that so many people care about him. Thank you for sharing your stories. I am Archie Johnson daughter. Andrea.

    1. Andrea, strangely, I am your half brother, and I too have been looking for Archie, after seeing my birth name was a Archie Johnson, I hope I am not too forward in saying such. It was nice to finally see why being a singer songwriter came so effortlessly to me. I just wanted to share some of my music with the man but I no longer can so... To anyone who's interested Beau Ryan Music on Facebook or YouTube, look for the blue sky
